Starting point
After exhausting pre-legal collection procedures, the only option left for creditors to collect their open items before proceeding to debt enforcement is procuring a court order for payment. In the past, companies had to rely on manual processes or non-SAP software for managing their legal dunning procedure or they outsourced the whole process to third parties (collection agencies or law firms).
The legal dunning procedure is the highest dunning level in the SAP system and the last stage taken care of by a company’s dunning department. As a next step, the open items are passed on to the legal department or external lawyers for further pursuit.
The focus of modern dunning management is on managing all the stages of the dunning process, including the legal dunning procedure, within SAP. This helps companies to streamline their processes and to cut the cost of collecting their open items.
